BCCI and IPL broadcasting rights officials want to ensure that no individual or team posts match-day photos or videos on social media to increase the number of followers, Indian Express reported. BCCI has also taken steps in this regard. Commentators, players, owners and each team's social media content team in the IPL have been told by the Indian Cricket Board that there will be consequences for violating these rules.

A commentator's venue Instagram live post at IPL hits 1 million views. An IPL franchise team has been fined Rs 9 lakh for posting live videos of their matches on social media. In IPL, the exclusive content rights for 'Live Match' and 'Venue' (Field of Play) are held only by the two owners of the broadcast rights of the tournament – Star India for TV and Viacom 18 for digital platforms.
