AMBERJACKS: RUGGED FIGHTERS

When we stop to fish the bottom structures, our clients are going toe-to-toe with the stubborn and huge Amberjacks. These fish are a blast to catch and are sure to lead to a good night’s sleep afterward!

These are truly trophy fish that will fight for every inch of line on your reel. Our Amberjacks are averaging 50-60 lbs and we’re catching them with live and dead bait over bottom structure. They are often lurking on the same structure as the snapper and grouper we target.

 

GROUPER AND SNAPPER: RING THE DINNER BELL!

KINGFISH AND WAHOO: TOOTHY BUT TASTY

The Wahoo bite is on fire! We’ve been catching Wahoo like the one below high-speed trolling offshore with a variety of lure and color combinations, with red/black seeming to be the most effective right now. High-speed trolling is a very effective way to trigger the Wahoo bite.

We continue to be amazed by the scorching runs that Wahoo make and our clients never forget the tackle-testing drama. They certainly don’t forget the tasty meals that Wahoo make either. We’re catching Wahoo that are averaging 20-40 lbs and larger.

Kingfish (King Mackerel) are another toothy species but we tend to target Kings with live baits such as hard tails and with cut or strip baits. Kingfish are nicknamed “Smokers” not only because they can smoke the drag of a reel when hooked but because many like to put huge Kingfish hunks on the smoker to make fish dip. Right now, our Kingfish are averaging 15-30 lbs.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT COBIA!

No gamefish screams “Destin Sportfishing!” quite like Cobia and we’re still catching plenty of Cobia…and they’re huge! Our Cobia are averaging 35-40 lbs and we’re catching them on just about everything: Live bait, dead bait and artificials! Did we mention just how tasty Cobia can be?
