What happened in the watermelon market, prices are down a bit but sales are low

The experience of Nazirul Islam, a fruit seller in Malibagh area, is similar. He said, 'After the start of the watermelon season, there is a debate about whether it will be sold in kilograms or as pieces in the market. Many people did not want to buy watermelon by the kg. Sales fall. Now many like me are selling as pieces. But even if we sell as pieces, we have accounts. 5-6 kg watermelon is selling at 150 to 200 taka, and around 10 kg watermelon is selling at 300 to 400 taka.

But somewhere in the market, the price of watermelon has been seen lower. In those places, each watermelon is being sold at 100 taka and 200 taka. A section of the traders feel that there is no opportunity to sell watermelon per kg in the market. Because, these watermelons are not sold per kg at the farmer level or wholesale markets like Badamtali and Wiseghat in the capital.

General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Fruit Import-Exporter Association Abdul Karim Sheikh said, 'The price of watermelon has come down. The current market is good for buyers. But whether the farmers are making losses or not, it is a matter to be seen. Apart from this, there is no opportunity to sell watermelon in kg in the market, he said.
