The Industrial Police says that out of 2,534 factories in Savar-Ashulia, Gazipur, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Khulna, Comilla and Sylhet, 2,534 factories have paid March wages till yesterday. 2 thousand 183 factories have paid festival allowance.

The top leaders of the factory owners' organizations BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA continue to advocate for the owners as usual. There is no major problem with their demand, salary and festival allowance. All factories will pay salaries by Tuesday. The latest news is that even on Tuesday, all the factories did not pay their salaries.

Even a few years ago, the government used to set a deadline for payment of salary and festival allowance to the workers in the garment sector. However, due to pressure from the owners, it is no longer done. It is only said that salaries and allowances must be paid before the Eid holiday. This caused complications in some factories with the last minute salary and allowances. Many times the workers cannot go home despite getting the last minute salary-bonus. That's what the owners want.

The Industrial Police supervises 9 thousand 469 industrial factories of various sectors including Savar-Ashulia, Gazipur, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Khulna, Comilla and Sylhet, textile mills, jute mills. They said 49 percent of factories had paid March wages as of 5 p.m. Monday. And 81 percent of the factories have paid the festival allowance. 2 thousand 984 factories gave Eid holiday with salary and allowance. In all, 3 thousand 381 factories have been closed so far.

According to the Industrial Police, 920 or 59 percent of the 1,561 garment factories that are members of BGMEA under their supervision have not paid their salaries for March till yesterday. And 181 factories did not give festival allowance.
