Postmortem of the two bodies will be conducted on Thursday and additional security guards will be deployed in the area today, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hill District Rituraj Ravi told reporters.

Administrative officials told the media that stones were found near the two bodies. It is assumed that they were killed. However, it has also been informed that a magistrate level inquiry will be ordered to ascertain the exact reason why the two were killed.

The Ichamati region has also made headlines in the past due to clashes between tribal and non-tribal communities. Non-indigenous people of the common community have been attacked in the past as outsiders in the region.
