Two days later, on the night of March 18, the Panchagarh Express train derailed at the eastern end of the Bangabandhu Bridge at Tangail. Train movement between North Bengal and Dhaka was stopped for about five hours after four wheels of a train derailed.

After these two major train accidents before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the railway authorities have taken action to ensure safe journey. Four instructions have been given to the officials and employees associated with train management so that people heading home do not face any new accidents during Eid.

The instructions are: 1. Railway tracks in vulnerable areas should be guarded round the clock by waymen and members of the Railway Security Force, day and night. Mobile numbers of Wayman and Security Force members on duty should be kept in each control room for constant communication in this regard. 2. If necessary, patrols should be carried out by motor trolleys consisting of Railway Police, Security Force and staff under the command of Senior Assistant Engineers. 3. Stationmasters, Inspectors and Senior Assistant Engineers shall supervise the Railway Track (Railway) in their respective areas at all times and inform the Control Room. 4. Each Divisional Engineer will closely supervise the patrolling activities.

The chief operating officer of the eastern region of the railway has confirmed the fact of giving four types of instructions for safe journey. Shahidul Islam.
