The first shipment of Indian onions has arrived in the country

Recently, the government decided to import 50,000 tons of onion from India after increasing the price of onion. The onion that arrived in the country today is the first shipment of that import. After the meeting of the task force committee on commodity price and market review in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Haque said that the imported onion will be sold at the rate of Tk 40 per kg through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

According to related sources, the National Cooperative Export Limited of Delhi, the capital of India, is the exporter of this onion. TCB is the importer of this onion in Bangladesh. The total purchase price of onions bought at the rate of $400 per ton is $660,000. Onions were brought to Bangladesh in 42 wagons of goods train from Nashik.
