Hibatullah further said, 'You (women's rights organisations) may call it a violation of women's rights. But they have acted in conflict with our democratic principles.' Hibatullah described the move as a continuation of the Taliban's struggle against Western influence. He said, Taliban's work is not finished by occupying Kabul, it is just the beginning.

Although the news is alarming, women's rights organizations in Afghanistan are not surprised by it. They think that what was left as protection and rights for 14 million women and girls of the country, is now on the verge of extinction.

Safia Arefi, chief lawyer for the country's human rights organization Women's Window of Hope, said the announcement meant taking Afghan women back to the darkest days of Taliban rule in the 1990s.
