'La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaj joalimin.' (Surah Ambiya, verse: 87)

Meaning of Doa Yunus

That is, 'O Allah, there is no god but you. You are holy and great, I am transgressor.'

Prayer is the virtue of Yunus

Hazrat Yunus (a.s.) went to the belly of the fish and sought refuge with Allah after reading a prayer. Begged for forgiveness. That is known as Doa Yunus. He said, 'La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaj joalimin.' (Surah Ambiya, verse: 87) That is, 'O Allah, there is no god but You. You are holy and great, I am transgressor.'

As a result of this prayer, Allah freed him from the belly of the fish. In the Qur'an, 'If he had not recited the glories of Allah, he would have remained in the belly of a fish until the Day of Resurrection.' (Surah Saffat, Verses: 143-144)

In case of any danger, one should seek Allah's help and shelter.

There is a hadith about Hazrat Saad (RA). Rasulullah (s.a.w.) said, Junun Yunus (a.s.) prayed in the belly of the fish, la ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaj zawalimin. Whenever a Muslim recites this dua, Allah surely accepts his dua. (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3505)
