A letter in this regard signed by Tangail City Awami League President and Tangail Municipality Mayor SM Sirajul Haque and General Secretary MA Rauf was sent to the Central General Secretary on April 10 through the party's Dhaka division in-charge organizing secretary Mirza Azam. The matter was announced on Monday.

City Awami League general secretary MA Rauf told Prothom Alo today that a letter was sent to the general secretary of the party before Eid recommending the final release of Golam Kibria. No decision of the General Secretary has been received in this regard yet.

In that letter, it is said that after the rape case was registered, various media reports were published continuously. The image of the party has been severely tarnished by his unethical activities. Because of this, the common people of Tangail have a negative perception towards the party. In such a situation, Golam Kibria alias Bara Moni was given temporary exemption from the post of Vice President of Tangail city Awami League for the greater interest of the party and to maintain the reputation and image of Tangail district on the advice and direction of the central Awami League leaders. A recommendation was made to the General Secretary for grant of final exemption.
