In this season (fiscal year 2023-24), potatoes have been cultivated on 2 thousand 726 hectares of land in Shariatpur. The agriculture department has set a production target of 77 thousand 490 metric tons. Potato production has increased by 35 thousand 640 metric tons (85 percent) in the last 5 years. And cultivation has increased in 1 thousand 176 hectares of land (76 percent).

Agriculture department and farmers said that potatoes are cultivated more in riverine pastures. For seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, pesticides and labor, the farmer has spent Tk 1,400 to Tk 1,700 per hundred of land. And production has increased from 110 kg to 115 kg.

Farmer Abdul Hai Sardar of Pansara area of ​​Naopara Union of Naria Upazila has grown potatoes on one acre of land. He collected all the potatoes from the land and kept 11 tons of potatoes in a freezer in Munshiganj. Abdul Hai Sardar Prothom-aloK said, 'I have spent 15 rupees per kg of potato production this year. Some profit is being made for 5 years. In previous years it had to sell at or below cost of production. Now I put potatoes in the freezer. The price will increase, then I will sell.'
