Who went when?
According to the IMF website, Pakistan became a member of the IMF in July 1950. And in 1958 Ayub Khan approached the IMF two months after coming to power. That year, Pakistan signed a loan agreement of two and a half million dollars with the IMF. Then in 1966 and 1969, Pakistan borrowed 37.5 million dollars and 7.5 million dollars respectively from the IMF.

Pakistan's economy worsened due to the liberation war in 1971. As a result, Pakistan went to the IMF for three consecutive years in 1972, 1973 and 1974. Then the country took a loan of 234 million dollars in three times. Then the country approached the IMF for the most part in the 1990s. In that decade, the IMF had to take loans six times.

The latest economic crisis started in Pakistan from 2021. In the next 2 years this crisis intensified. Therefore, the government of Pakistan wants an emergency loan of 3 billion dollars from the IMF in 2022. The IMF agreed to give this loan last year. In total, Pakistan has so far taken a loan of about 2 thousand 3 billion dollars from the IMF.
