According to Kepler, a shipping monitoring firm, three very large crude oil tankers and three Suezmax vessels are currently on their way to India. The ships are carrying 7.6 million barrels of crude oil, equivalent to 256,000 barrels of oil per day.

According to information from financial institution LSEG, the six vessels are heading towards the west coast of India. The ships were chartered by Reliance Industries, Vitol, Equinor and Sinocor.

India was the largest buyer of Russian oil last year. After Russia began attacking Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries imposed various sanctions on Moscow. Some sanctions are imposed on Russian oil exports. After that, when various countries stopped importing oil from Russia, India increased its purchase of Russian oil.
