According to the information given by BCIC, in the current season (five months from November to April), salt production is going on in 66 thousand 424 acres of land in Teknaf, Kutubdia, Pekua, Cox's Bazar Sadar, Eidgaon, Maheshkhali, Chakria and Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong. The target of salt production in these fields has been set at 25 lakh 45 thousand metric tons. About 1.7 million metric tons of salt has been produced in the four months till April 6. 8 lakh metric tons more will be needed to reach the target. At least 10 lakh people of the district including at least 40 thousand marginal farmers, 1 lakh laborers are involved in salt production, transportation and trade. According to BCIC data, the average price of salt per maund was Tk 430 last year, now the average selling price is Tk 372.
