How Sulaiman acts as a mediator in rescuing the hostages

by endroar

Sulaiman said, 'Almost every family in my village has been kidnapped. He helped everyone free of charge. Even though ransom is now forbidden, everyone still comes to him. They are desperate for help.'

Sulaiman admits that the position he is in now is very scary. Because the government does not like to negotiate with bandits. Even those who do this can be jailed if they want.

Sulaiman did not attach much importance to his success. He cited poverty and widespread unemployment among the youth as the main causes of the kidnapping crisis in Nigeria.

Competition for land between cattle herders and farmers is also a factor behind this problem. Most of the kidnappers are former herdsmen of the Fulani ethnic group. They mainly target the villages of Hausa farmers.

Sulaiman said, 'When I talk to bandits, I understand them. The discussion is usually in Hausa.'
