Government is looking for one village one product

by endroar

In 2008, Bangladesh undertook one district one product program. The Awami League government launched this program in 2009. And the responsibility of implementing it is given to EPB.

EPB Vice Chairman AHM Ahsan Prothom-aloWho said, there was no major program of one district one product. EPB has tried to bring out some exportable products through it. Agar, fragrant rice, handicrafts have also been exported under it. The way a village is now thought of as a product, it is expected to help in increasing export products.

Under the One District One Product programme, 14 products are selected from 41 districts. These products include agarwood and agarbati in Moulvibazar; Herbs of Natore; Panchagarh Organic Tea; Thin and fragrant rice from Dinajpur, Naogaon and Kushtia; Khulna Crab; Bandarban Rubber; Handicrafts of Sunamganj, Feni, Jamalpur, Faridpur, Rangpur and Kurigram; Handlooms of Rajshahi, Sirajganj, Tangail, Comilla and Rangamati; Pandar of Dinajpur; Fresh vegetables from Jaipurhat, Chandpur, Bogra, Nilphamari, Munshiganj, Meherpur, Jessore, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Jhenaidah and Narayanganj; Fish from Netrakona, Barisal, Mymensingh, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali and Narail; Chittagong leather and leather products; Khagrachari pineapple and chuadanga drink.

Khandkar Golam Moazzem, research director of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a private research organization, said that it is important to evaluate why the one district one product program did not benefit. And for new initiatives, instead of bureaucracy, if local government i.e. DC office, upazila administration and union council are added, good results can be obtained.
