by endroar

The distance from Bandarban city to Ruma is about 42 km. Sonali Bank's Ruma branch is 200 yards away from Ruma Upazila Parishad. Next to it is the Upazila Mosque. All around are high mountains.

It can be seen on the ground floor that the officials of various government organizations live on the ground floor of a two-storey building at the entrance to the Upazila Parishad office. On one side of the second floor is the Sonali Bank Ruma branch. On the other side, there are 10 policemen who are in charge of bank security.

According to law enforcement and eyewitness sources, KNF members shut down the power substation before the attack. As a result, the upazila parishad area became without electricity. The armed men barricaded both sides in front of the Upazila Parishad office on the Bandarban-Ruma road.

Hundreds of KNF members are believed to have participated in the attack. Most of them were wearing uniforms. The members divided into several groups and proceeded towards Sonali Bank, the local mosque and the residence of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). They took away the weapons of the Ansar members towards the UNO residence.

Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Deputy Director General of Chittagong Mohammad Saifullah Russell told Prothom Alo at the scene that four of the eight Ansar members in their charge were injured. The gunmen looted their 4 shotguns and 35 bullets.
