There is no precise statistics on what percentage of garment factories have paid bonuses and salaries before Eid. However, the Industrial Police supervised the payment of salaries and allowances of 9,500 factories in Savar-Ashulia, Gazipur, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Khulna, Comilla and Sylhet, including garments made in other industries. The latest information about the payment of salaries and allowances was given to the media on April 9 till 12 noon.

According to the latest statistics of the Industrial Police, out of 1,561 BGMEA factories under their supervision, 272 or 17.42 percent factories were in arrears. And 4.16 percent factory Eid bonus was left. On the other hand, the bonus of 626 factories of BKMEA remained 1.79 percent but the salary remained 13.42 percent or 84 factories.

When asked, BGMEA president SM Mannan told Prothom Alo last night, 'As far as we know, one factory has not been able to pay the workers. But they gave bonus. Besides, in many factories a part of the salary was arrears. It is normal. In the past too, before Eid, some would pay a part of the salary, and after the Eid holiday, they would pay the rest.'
