15 percent income tax cannot be collected from three universities for now

According to several lawyers of the private universities, the NBR issued notices (letters) to the registrars of several private universities on March 4 for payment of dues (income tax) as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act. The bank accounts of some private universities were also suspended for not paying 15 percent income tax. In this regard, three private universities filed three separate petitions, which came up for hearing in the chamber court today.

The three universities are North South University, The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Southeast University.

Senior lawyers AF Hasan Arif, Fida M Kamal and Murad Reza and lawyer Omar Sadat were present in the court for the three universities. Attorney General AM Amin Uddin was present in the hearing for the state.
